Teacher Appreciation Week: Join us this week as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week all week. Our building couldn’t function without the dedication of our hardworking teachers!
Coffee with Principal Mitchell: Wednesdays throughout the month of May parents are invited to join our principal, Mr. Mitchell for coffee and a quick parent meeting. This is an informal series of meetings designed to give parents a chance to discuss Cal Young and get updates from the principal as well as other key staff. These meetings will serve to replace our May PTO meeting.
CYMS Spring Track: Congratulations to our track & field team on their perfect regular season. All grade levels and genders swept the season with a victory in all three dual meets. Tuesday, our top athletes in each event go on to compete in the Sub-District track meet at Churchill High School. Field events begin at noon with the first race of the day at 1:00pm.
While only qualified athletes will compete on Tuesday and practice on Monday, all athletes should come to school on Monday prepared to practice. Final entries are determined on Sunday evening. Entries will be posted in the foyer first thing Monday morning. If a student did not qualify for the sub-district meet, their season has completed and they should not attend practice on Monday.
There will not be any practice on Wednesday due to the All District coaches meeting in preparation for the district meet.

Yearbooks: Now is your chance to buy your child a yearbook! The yearbook will be full of fun Cal Young memories and photos from events throughout the year. The order deadline is Friday, May 10th!
The cost for a yearbook is $25. Scholarships are available! If you would like to support others by sponsoring a student in need, we encourage you to make a yearbook donation to cover a scholarship. Purchases, scholarship requests, and donations can all be done through SchoolPay or contacting Ms. Alexis at Krivchuk_a@4j.lane.edu or calling 541-790-6414. Cash & checks are also accepted in the front office.
Yearbooks will be distributed in class on Tuesday, June 11th. Students will have opportunities throughout the day for dedicated yearbook signing time.
8th Grade Updates:
Promotion: The date for 8th grade promotion as well as the end of the year celebration have switched! Due to a scheduling conflict, the 8th grade celebration field day, with a trip to Eugene Swim & Tennis Club has been moved to Thursday, June 13th. The promotion ceremony and celebration will now take place on the last day of school, Friday, June 14th.
Baby Picture: Parents, please submit a toddler photo of your 8th grade student. These photos will be used for the 8th grade promotion and their promotion breakfast slide show. Submit your student’s photo HERE! As of now we are missing pictures for over half of the class. Deadline to submit photos is May 31st.
Sheldon Athletics: Click here for information about Sheldon Athletics for all interested 8th grade athletes!
Preferred Name: Promotion materials are coming together and we need your help to ensure we get things right! Our default for students is to use their full legal name for all upcoming promotion materials. However, we recognize that some students and their families may have a preference to use a name other than their full legal. If you would like your student’s name altered for promotion materials or how their name is read when they cross the stage, please email Krivchuk_a@4j.lane.edu no later than May 31.
Examples: Christopher Mitchell to Chris Mitchell | Destiny Cyrus to Miley Cyrus | Christopher Kutcher to Ashton Kutcher | Alecia Moore to P!nk | Matthew Myers to Matt Myers
