New Website Look: Earlier this week, 4J school websites converted to a new format. We are excited about the increased functionalities this format provides. As with many changes, however, there are some growing pains. Please be patient as we continue to make updates and improve the website. We recognize the inconvenience this may cause some families and apologize for any frustrations. Please reach out to the CYMS office with any questions you may have. We look forward to providing you with a comprehensive and user friendly website experience.

AVID College & Career Night: Did you get an email inviting your current 6th or 7th grade student to join AVID next year? If so, please join our current AVID 7th & 8th grade students for AVID Family Night to get more information on Wednesday, April 10th from 6:00-6:45 in the CY cafeteria.

What is AVID? AVID is an elective course offered at CYMS and schools around the country to provide scaffolded support to students to encourage college and career readiness and success. For one period a day, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in all of their courses throughout their academic journey.

8th Grade Updates:

Sheldon Visit: Our 8th grade students will head to Sheldon on Monday to tour the campus, meet with key Sheldon staff, and get their first glimpse at becoming part of Sheldon High School.

Forecasting: Counselors from Sheldon will present to our 8th grade students on matters of scheduling and forecasting for high school on Monday, April 15th. Each student will fill in a draft forecasting form. Students should go over their forecasting options with parents throughout that week. The following Monday, April 22nd, students will meet 1:1 with Sheldon staff to submit their forecasting choices into StudentVUE.

Parent Night: Parents are invited to an informational presentation and meeting at Sheldon High School from 6:30- 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17th. Learn about what you and your student can expect in their freshman year at Sheldon and get answers to common forecasting questions.

8th Grade Open House: Stay tuned for information on an 8th grade open house to be held in the Sheldon courtyard. Students and families will have the opportunity to check out clubs, electives, sports, and more!

Allergy Season: As we head into spring, we welcome sunshine, flowers, and Willamette Valley seasonal allergies. After a tough cold and flu season, our tissue supply is critically low. Typically, allergy season is just as intense for our students’ needs for a tissue or twenty throughout the school day.

Please consider helping us make it through allergy season with a donation of a box of tissue. Donations can be dropped off in the front office.

Oregon State Testing: State testing season is back. This year Cal Young will operate on a special schedule April 29th, April 30th, and May 2nd to complete testing. Wednesday, May 1st, will be our typical early release schedule to allow for our affinity groups to meet and to allow for the early release time.

Testing Gum & Mints: Cal Young is seeking donations of mint gum as well as hard mints to supply to students during testing this year. Overall, we go through between 1,200 and 1,700 pieces during testing every year. Please consider making a donation of packs of mint gum or mints. Donations are accepted in the front office. Thank you for your generosity!

Attendance Line: Please contact the Cal Young attendance phone line at 541-790-6454 to excuse your student due to illness or other excused absence. Students who come in to school late will need a medical note or other contact from the parent to excuse the tardy.
