SAEBRS Assessment

As part of our ongoing efforts to support student well-being, Cal Young Middle School will be administering the SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) during Advisory on Monday, October 20th.

SAEBRS is a brief (19 question), research-based screening tool that helps identify students’ strengths and potential areas for growth in social, academic, and emotional well-being. The tool is designed to help schools align academic and social-emotional supports, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to thrive. The SAEBRS screener is confidential and will be administered by your child’s advisory teacher.

Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, Cal Young will complete three SAEBRS screening windows. Teachers will complete the SAEBRS (teacher version), and students will have the opportunity to take the MySAEBRS (student version) 2-3 times.

To learn more about the student assessment, you may review the following resources:

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the academic and emotional growth of our students.

LTD Passes

Heads up! LTD passes may stop working after October 15th if they didn't get renewed properly behind the scenes (you don't need to do anything each year to renew your pass). If your pass doesn't work next time you ride the bus, go to the front office to get it renewed.

E-Bike Guide for Teens, Parents, and Guardians

E-bikes can build independence, enhance physical and mental health, and are a low-emissions way to travel. Read on for best practices.

Ride Safely & Responsibly
  • Only use an e-bike if you know the rules of road and have excellent bike handling skills
  • Manage your speed. Corrections are harder to make on a heavy bike traveling at high speeds
  • Ride like drivers don't see you. Slow down and make eye contact at intersections and driveways. Stay out of drivers' blind spots
  • Wear a properly-fitted helmet designed for e-bike speeds
  • Be seen: use lights and wear bright or reflective clothing or accessories
  • Avoid loose-fitting clothing that could get caught in the bike's chain or moving parts
  • Check brakes and tire pressure before riding
  • Invest in a high-quality lock to prevent theft and always lock up the frame to a secure object
  • Register your e-bike at bikeindex.org for a better chance of recovery in case of theft

Follow the Law
  • Minimum age to ride an e-bike is 16
  • Throttles, where no pedaling is necessary, are only legal up to 20 mph
  • Pedal assist, which adds extra power beyond 28mph, any bike powered faster than 28 mph is not allowed on streets or sidewalks
  • E-bikes are not allowed on sidewalks

For more information: Visit the City of Eugene's e-bike page at www.eugene-or.gov/4665/E-Bikes
