Cheer Drive Information
It is time once again for the Cougar Holiday Cheer Drive. Last year's drive was a huge success, helping over 35 Cal Young families in need during the holiday season.

While there are many resources around Eugene to help families with small children make the holidays bright, the number of organizations dwindles as students get older. This annual drive allows Cal Young families with the ability to help the opportunity to give and support those of our families who are facing financial difficulties this holiday season.

Cal Young is collecting donations of gift cards to provide CYMS families who could benefit from a little help this season. We welcome any and all gift cards that could brighten the holidays for our students.

Donate & Sign Up
Gift cards can be turned in to Miss Alexis at the front office now through Monday, December 16th.

Thank you for helping make the season bright for all Cal Young Cougars. If you would like a receipt for your tax-deductible donation, please email Alexis at krivchuk_a@4j.lane.edu or include a note with your donation.

Can't make it to the store or in to Cal Young to bring a gift card but would like to contribute? Donate via SchoolPay. *All Holiday Cheer Drive donations go toward gift cards specifically to grocery stores.

If your family is facing hardship and could use a boost of holiday cheer this season, please sign up by filling out the google form below. The form closes on Friday, December 13th. You will receive a confirmation communication for pick up the week before Winter Break.

PTO Meeting
For your planning purposes, our next Cal Young Parent Group meeting will be Thursday, December 5th at 6pm in the CY Library. Believe it or not, it is time to start talking about the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony and After Party in June.

Thank you to everyone who came in to visit with staff during our Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. It was great to see many of our families! We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family, friends, and loved ones. Just a reminder, our front office will be closed until student & staff return on Monday, December 2nd. Go Cougars!

Science Request
Mr. Baker and Ms. Field are part of the 4J Science Curriculum Adoption Committee and have a request to help them pilot (test out) a unit from one of the potential curricula.
We are in need of 96 clean 1/2 gallon milk/juice containers, by the end of this week. The regular plastic ones or aseptic boxes will work (see photos below). These will be used for an activity that models the kinetic energy in moving water from a hydroelectric dam.
If you have any 1/2 gallon containers, please send them with your student, or drop them at the front office. Lids are not necessary, but rinsing would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for supporting Science at Cal Young!

Community Winter Holiday Resource List

Eugene International High School
Eugene International High School (Eugene IHS) is a choice school for students in grades 9-12 offering a 4-year interdisciplinary humanities curriculum focused on international studies. Students are dual enrolled in both Eugene IHS and their host school.

ANY student can enroll. They must go through the online 4J School Choice Lottery, regardless of attendance area: 4j.lane.edu/schoolchoice. The in-district deadline is January 31, 2025.

IMPORTANT DATES for the 2025-2026 School Year:
January 1……Online application period for 4J School Choice Lottery opens for in-district students
January 31…..Deadline to submit in-district 4J School Choice Lottery Applications
March 1………Online application period for 4J School Choice Lottery opens for out-of-district students

Spanish and French Immersion students from Monroe and Roosevelt will be enrolled in Eugene IHS without the lottery process because they entered immersion through the lottery in elementary or middle school. However, immersion students do need to submit the Eugene IHS Enrollment Form to the Eugene IHS office at South or Sheldon by the January 31st deadline. This form will be included in a special mailing to immersion families.

We hope you will consider becoming a part of our Eugene IHS community!
