This coming week, we will hold the first of our regular emergency drills. Throughout the school year, students and staff will participate in a variety of emergency drills in addition to traditional fire drills. Advisory lessons will cover the different types of drills students will experience throughout the year.
Please note that during drills, there will not be any late arrivals or early releases processed until the drill is over. Students returning from appointments should wait until the completion of the drill for entry to the building. We encourage parents picking students up for appointments or early departures to call ahead whenever possible. If a drill is to be conducted during your pick up time, the office staff will inform you at the time of your call so adjustments can be made for your student pick up.

|
|
We ask that appointments be scheduled during non- school hours as often as possible but recognize there are times when class must be missed to accommodate appointments. If you need to pick your child up from school early for an appointment or family reason, please call the front office, 541-790-6400, at least 30 minutes in advance of your needed pick up time. This allows us to have your student ready for you.
Parents do need to come in to the front office to sign their child out. Only those on a students approved list are permitted to pick a student up early from school.

Picture Day Volunteers Needed:
|
Are you interested in helping with picture day? We need a couple of volunteers to help organize students and assist photographers. Sign up today on SignUpGenius.

|
All adults who volunteer in the school are required to have an approved background check on file. Volunteer approvals and background checks are good for two calendar years. If you have not completed this process and would like to volunteer in the school, please complete the online application. Once approved, you will receive an email notice and you will be uploaded into our system.
Due to the volume of volunteers across the district, background checks can take a while to get processed. We recommend parents who think they may be interested in volunteering at some point in the year take the time early to complete the process. Please note that the background check does not commit you to any particular volunteering opportunity or event.
To check out current volunteer opportunities, please visit our volunteers page.

Our bell schedule has changed this year. District wide, middle school has moved to seven academic periods with one advisory period per day. Early release days will consist of only the academic periods and advisory will not be held. Please note that every Wednesday of the school year is an early release schedule, with students dismissed at 2:35.

This year we have a variety of spirit gear available to purchase either by order form or online. All orders are due by Friday, September 27th.
Parents are encouraged to order online when possible, however, paper order forms are available in the front office. Please make any checks payable to Cal Young Middle School and include your student's name in the memo section.

Student Drop Off/ Pick Up
|
Parents should remain in their vehicles both at drop off and pick up times when using the drop off/ pick up loop. There are limited spaces available for parking if you need to come into the building. Traffic on Gilham can easily become quite backed up during pick up time in particular.
Families may with to consider meeting their students along any of the following nearby streets: Holly, Teresa, Elanco, and Benson. If you do utilize the drop off loop, please be considerate of others, pull all the way forward, and watch for students as they cross to their family's vehicles.
Please remember, when picking up or dropping off your student, to keep the bus loop clear at all times.

If your student needs a schedule correction (example: has 2 math classes and no science class on their schedule), they will need to complete this Schedule Correction Request Form. Class change requests for anything other than scheduling errors require a meeting with Mr. Parks in addition to filling out the form. The request deadline for changes is Thursday, September 12th.

A notice to our community: Beginning Monday, September 9th, gate access to the CYMS track and turf field will be locked from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, school days. This is in an effort to improve safety for our students during the school day and ensure our PE programs have unimpeded use of the space. We appreciate the understanding and support of our Cal Young community.
